Concentric and Eccentric Reducers: What to Include in an RFQ

A reducer connects different sizes, so one diameter is not enough for a quotation. Identify both ends and the required geometry before comparing suppliers.

Specify both ends

List large-end and small-end sizes, their wall-thickness requirements, material grade, standard and edition, connection details and quantity. Keep these fields on the same order line so the relationship between the ends is unambiguous.

Confirm the geometry

State concentric or eccentric as required by the approved piping design. If orientation, installed length or a special offset matters, include the drawing. Do not select orientation from a generic product photograph; application and installation details must be checked by the project engineer.

Check proposed alternatives

If a supplier proposes different end walls, length or machining, request a clearly marked deviation. Confirm how the reducer matches the connected pipes and which documents accompany it. Record the accepted requirement in the purchase order rather than leaving different drawings in separate emails.

Common question

Can one quantity cover several reducer sizes? Use separate lines for each large-end/small-end combination. Can a standard item replace a special reducer? Only after the dimensions, material and project requirements have been reviewed and approved.
