A pipe cap quotation should identify the pipe end it will close, not just say “steel cap.” Send the material, connection details and required documents so offers can be checked against the same specification.
Identify the cap and pipe
Give the product standard and edition, material specification and grade, connection type, pipe size and wall-thickness requirement. For a replacement, include the approved drawing or verified dimensions of the existing connection. Do not infer material or thickness from a photograph.
Describe special requirements
If the cap needs a particular overall dimension, machining, surface treatment or marking, show it on the drawing or item list. State quantity per size instead of combining several sizes into one total. Have the project engineer resolve any proposed dimensional or material alternative.
Agree the inspection package
Specify the material records, dimensional checks, identification and packaging required by the order. Ask the quotation to distinguish included documents from optional inspection. At receiving, check the package label and records against the order line before releasing the goods for use.
Common question
Is a cap the same as a blind flange? They are different product forms and connection arrangements. Order the item shown in the approved piping design and review its matching connection. For pricing, send the drawing, quantity and destination rather than requesting a generic interchangeable closure.
